These symmetrical twin tip skiboards are constructed specifically for high performance riding with stability at speeds you won’t believe. Made for all mountain riding, the wide body shape is equally at home on the groomed runs as well as in the crud or floating in powder. These skiboards are still the best 99cm skiboards ever produced (and we’ve ridden them all). Summit skiboards are designed with one goal in mind – to take the sport of skiboarding to a new level of performance. Be prepared to push the limits of what you thought was possible on skiboards. The new Nomad meets our goal.
Handcrafted, one pair at a time, with extreme attention to detail, this season’s Summit Nomad 99cm is constructed with a vertically laminated tip-to-tail wood core. The wood is Northern Hemisphere birch which is very light, yet super strong. Colder temperatures create wood that is denser, thus super strong, while being very light in weight. This is why we choose wood from the Northern Hemisphere. This wood allows for a smooth flex throughout the length of the skiboards which is quite different from skiboards made with cheaper materials that tend to “pop” at unexpected moments or even break.
The parabolic sidecut is constructed to function impeccably with the solid birch wood core to deliver almost effortless carves. These are made to hold an edge no matter how hard you charge it. The high energy, lively wood core is sandwiched between two top layers of triaxial fiberglass (an additional layer added this season), a layer of Kevlar (new this season also) and a bottom layer of triaxial fiberglass providing just the right combination of flex and torsional stiffness that offers an incredibly smooth ride. In addition, an extra layer of biaxial fiberglass is added to maintain the smooth tip-to-tail flex allowing just the right carving feel. A layer of rubber dampening makes for additional smooth riding, absorbing those vibrations, but allowing maximum road feel.
As for ride, just think about turning and you’re into a carve. The consistent tip to tail flex brings a new level of carving to skiboards, whether in glove dragging lay it over carves or ripping the moguls. Smooth, rock solid performance and incredible stability at speed, a result of the quality inner materials and the ABS sidewall construction, provide a ride like no other 99cm ever on the market. With sidewall construction, the Nomad provides many advantages over cap construction. Among these advantages are increased torsional stability, greater edge protection, enhanced power transfer to the edges, additional vibration dampening, greater strength and reinforce the full length flex from tip to tail.
Designed for true all mountain riding, these hand crafted skiboards will take you into those breath taking steep chutes or flying through the glades while in control. The wide body platform delivers great floatation in the deep stuff, offering awesome performance for something this size. You can lean hard on the back tails and they are going to support you, a true comfort to know during those deep powder days. Edges hold even on ice.
Summit Nomad 99cm skiboards feature black sintered bases – highly durable bases that allow for maximum wax absorption to ensure a smooth glide, while offering the ability to attain speeds that are truly impressive. In addition, black bases are easier to repair dings or gouges and bring them back to new looking condition. In contrast, printed bases are much more difficult to hide repairs.
These symmetrical twin tips with all new graphics for 2012 were designed for ease of riding whether forwards or backwards or just spinning down the mountain and making yourself dizzy! No mass produced skiboards can compare to the smooth ride of these Nomads, no matter what you choose to do on the slopes. To complete the package, special Rockwell carbon steel edges are integrated into the design as well as 4 stainless steel inserts in a centered position for maximum flexibility for those who prefer non-release 4 hole mount bindings
The new Summit Nomad 99cm skiboards are made to perform whether charging the steeps, hucking cliffs, flying in the parks or just having a fun day on the slopes. Recommended for advanced to expert riders and for intermediate riders who are ready to take a quantum leap in their ability level.
Recommended Bindings:
Step-in Release: Any ski bindings or AT bindings can be mounted. We offer an adjustable release binding that works great with these, is easy to use and allows for full flex. The Atomic Evox 10 bindings are our choice for adjustable, step-in release bindings this season. These come with free mounting. A 1/16 inch thick aluminum plate is an upgrade this season, inserted under the top sheet for even greater retention of release bindings. This does not change the flex in any way.
Non-release: the Nomad 99cm can be mounted with the Snowjam Extreme II or Bomber Elite bindings or any other 4 hole mount skiboard bindings. We recommend the Bomber Elite Skiboard Bindings for those seeking maximum performance as the Elite bindings bring out the full potential of these skiboards. Extreme II bindings are a great, more affordable alternative with all aluminum construction including toe levers. (4 hole mount)
NOTE: While there are currently no specific guidelines or laws preventing the use of non-release bindings on skiboards even up to 140cm, the longer length skiboards when used with non-release bindings do increase the risk of injury. Should you choose to use non-release bindings with the Nomad, you do so at your own risk knowing full well that there is the chance of serious injury.
Construction Details Summary:
- Wood core: vertically laminated birch wood core runs the full length of the skiboards, tip to tail, providing a highly responsive energy as well as greater long term durability.
- 360 full wrap Rockwell carbon steel edges: protects your skiboards from those unexpected dings while providing superior edge grip.
- Wide Body Shape: a large skiboard surface area for maximum stability, floatation and speed.
- Symmetrical Twin-tips: makes it easier to ride forwards as well as backwards (fakie). Excellent handling in the parks and pipes. Also, makes for the most perfect carves.
- Sintered bases: this is one of the best base materials for durability, maximum wax absorption and speed. These p-tex 4000 bases have less friction and thus more speed as well as less vulnerability to abrasion and impacts. The Black sintered bases are much easier to repair dings or gouges and bring them back to original looking condition. In contrast, printed bases are much more difficult to hide any repairs. process.
- Duraclear top sheet: protects the graphics and provides extra durability.
- Centered stance non-release binding mount: 4 stainless steel inserts are centered within each skiboard, in a standard 40 X 40mm skiboard binding mount pattern for non-release bindings. A centered stance gives you greater flexibility in customizing your preferred riding position. This also increases the retention strength of the bindings and allows for quick and accurate mounting, making it easy to interchange with other 4 hole pattern bindings.
- Custom fit aluminum reinforcement mounting plate: An upgrade this season is a thicker (1/16″) and longer aluminum plate for enhanced retention for mounting release ski-type bindings. This set up provides maximum retention no matter what bindings you prefer to use (ours or yours).
- Base bevel: 1 degree and side bevel of 89 degrees – great for carving with ease. These aggressive edges are great for ice, and lay it over carving. For some people, these could feel a bit grabby at first. If this is the case you may want to detune the front and back edges about 1 inch both sides right where they are about to curl up. This detuning will allow for smoother spins and jumps as well.
Sold in Pairs.
Tuning: All Summit Nomad 99cm skiboards come with factory wax, are fully tuned and ready to ride. We recommend using the Skiboards.com Tune kit to maintain your skiboards in optimal condition. For those of you who like to spin down the mountain, detuning edges is recommended.
