Announcing the all new Summit Freedom 99 cm Skiboards mounted with Tyrolia Release Bindings
Summit introduces their all new 99 cm model for the 2012 season complete with integrated Tyrolia LR9 Bindings. As compared to the wider Nomad 99 cm skiboards, the Freedom is a narrower profile skiboard. This narrower design makes for easy and quick edge-to-edge carving, very similar to Salomon Snowblades years back. However, as compared to the snowblades, these skiboards are upgraded for higher performance including a full length tip-to-tail wood core and full wrap steel edges. The wood core makes for a high energy ride and increased durability. In addition, these are made with a sidewall construction (rather than cap construction) that offers greater torsional stability (eliminates wobbling), greater edge grip and a classy look.
Overall, these are very stable at speed as compared to foam core skiboards like the original snowblades. Though a narrower profile, the surface area is enough to maintain speed and float even in the deeper stuff. The ride and manuevering of these skiboards is truly amazing.
The Freedom Skiboards also come complete with integrated Tyrolia LR9 ski release bindings mounted and fat brakes (leashes not required). These bindings are durable, easy to step in and out of and of course, offer great safety features as all ski release bindings do. The bindings also allow for full flex of the skiboards and are adjustable to a full range of ski boot sizes (adjusted by hand).
Skiboard bases are extruded, super hard, fast and durable. These skiboards also feature tip protectors for extra edge protection. Top sheet is high gloss and UV protected.
If you ever rode the Salomon Snowblades then you’ll really like these skiboards – similar in dimension, yet with the added benefit of a full wood core that makes for a more energetic and smooth ride (and of course, release bindings premounted). Like Salomon snowblades, the Summit Freedom 99cm has a more narrow-type asymmetrical twin tip design that allows fast edge-to-edge carving.
Factory Mounted Release Bindings
The Freedom 99 comes with the Tyrolia LR9 step-in release bindings. These are easy to adjust with toe and heel sliding on a rail. Feature a DIN setting of 2.5 to 9. Fits ski boots size 5-14 US (263-391 mm boot sole length). Wide brakes are included at no extra charge. Color: Black.
Details on LR9 Tyrolia Bindings: The Tyrolia Sympro bindings feature a unique anti blocking system (ABS) which allows the boot to literally glide out of the binding with practically no friction. It also puts significantly less load on the knees and ligaments especially in forward twisting falls. Skiboarder safety and the constant release values are unaffected by ice-up, dirt or boot wear. The system is self-cleaning.
The LR9 bindings sport a 4 roller pincer system with low friction inserts (TRP). This ensures a 180 degree release, a quick return to the initial set position along with an exact boot re-centering upon reentry. This feature also offers a 30% higher retention force with programmed shock-absorption that withstands brief, intense impacts and reduces peak loads on knees and ligaments (shock control).
These bindings allow for both heel and toe to be length-adjusted with a single motion of the hand using easy-adjust forward and back sliding plates. The heel flap features an adjustment window for setting the release values in any position, thus eliminating any extra movement of the heel.
Construction Details Summary:
- Wood core: vertically laminated wood core runs the full length of the skiboards, tip to tail, providing a highly responsive energy as well as greater long term durability.
- 360 full wrap Rockwell carbon steel edges: protects your skiboards from those unexpected dings while providing superior edge grip.
- Narrow Body Shape: a narrower skiboard surface area ensures quick edge-to-edge carving and you can ride with your boots close together. Very fast turning.
- Asymmetrical Twin-tips: makes it easier to ride forwards as well as backwards (fakie). Excellent handling in the parks and pipes. Also, makes for the most perfect carves.
- Extruded bases: highly durable and fast. These p-tex bases have less friction and thus more speed as well as less vulnerability to abrasion and impacts. The Black bases are much easier to repair dings or gouges and bring them back to original looking condition. In contrast, printed bases are much more difficult to hide any repairs. process.
- Duraclear top sheet: protects the silk screen graphics.
- Base bevel: 90 degrees for ease of carving.

Tuning: All Summit Nomad 99cm skiboards come with factory wax, are fully tuned and ready to ride. We recommend using the Skiboards.com Tune kit to maintain your skiboards in optimal condition. For those of you who like to spin down the mountain, detuning edges is recommended.
